German: Die Temperatur fiel um zehn Grad Celsius.
English: The temperatures dropped by ten degrees Celsius.
Until 1948, it was common to say "The temperture dropped by ten centigrades." That usage is officially no longer correct. Celsius is also the name of the French scientist who suggested the corresponding temperature scale.
